More than 5000 Mumbaikars gather at Juhu beach to kick start the #SAVETHEBEACH initiative
On World Environment Day, today, more than 5000 Mumbaikars came together, at Juhu beach to kick start #SAVETHEBEACH initiative, with active participation of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). This initiative is in line with this year’s theme #BeatPlasticPollution to spread awareness on marine plastic pollution through various activities. As a part of this cleanup drive, over 5000 Mumbaikars present at the beach today managed to clear out tons of plastic, garbage and other debris that were harming the environment at the beach.As a part of #Savethebeach initiative, a plastic recycling kiosk was installed at the food court area at the Juhu Beach. This kiosk will encourage people dump in all plastic waste in this kiosk, a paint company that manufactures plastic emulsion paint can then procure the recycled plastic waste from this kiosk. Several waste segregation dustbins were also deployed on the beach to encourage people to use these instead of littering our beaches.

The event also saw activation participation in the Environment Day Panel discussion from N Vasudevan, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mangrove Cell, Mumbai, Jitendra Raisinghani, Deputy Director, Maharashtra Maritime Board (Home Department), Government of Maharashtra and PK Mirashe, Assistant Secretary (Technical), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board; who shared their thoughts on #BeatPlasticPollution.
Indian Supermodel and actor Milind Soman, Mexican Ambassador to India Ms Melba Pria, Jan Craps, President – APAC South, AB InBev, Renu Hansraj, Juhu Ward Corporator and Founder, Juhu – Soul of Mumbai City and citizens group Forward 69 along with Ben Verhaert, President – India, AB InBev, Dr Karuna Singh, Regional Director – Asia, Earth Day Network, Kartikeya Sharma, Marketing Director – India, AB InBev and Sharad Puri, General Manager, JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu flagged of this cleanup drive at Juhu beach in Mumbai today morning.

Sharing her views on the menace of plastic pollution during this cleanup drive, Renu Hansraj, Juhu Ward Corporator and Founder, Juhu – soul of Mumbai city and citizens group Forward 69 said, “Mother Earth gives life abundance and selflessly while we pollute and ravage her with plastic toxicity. We need to awaken the nurturer within each one of us and be the change. The choice is ours; either your Beat Plastic Pollution or it Beats You.
