On Saturday, Salman Khan’s dabangayi was on full show. UP’s favourite filmi cop, Chulbul Pandey had scores of fan following him from the moment he landed in Lucknow, creating a mini law and order situation of sorts everywhere he went. Salman just didn’t have girls swooning over him; young, bicep-building boys, politicos and their well-connected kids – everyone wanted to shake hands with the star.
And they used every card up their sleeve for it. Even the PR person said he’d stopped picking up his phone, because of all the ‘you-don’t-know-who-I-am’ threats people had been using on him to meet Salman.
A slightly public-conscious Raja Bhaiyya walked into the hotel a little before Salman Khan was to leave, and was immediately escorted to the actor’s room. Bhaiyya met bhai, and then the former breezed out of the hotel, with probably the least waiting time.
Another SP state secretary, Naved Siddiqui was spotted in the hotel lobby all through Salman’s visit there. But Siddiqui denied having anything to do with Salman.
Kashif Khan, aspiring model, and his friend Aysan, businessman, were at the airport from 9am, trying to catch Sallu before anyone else, followed him to the five star, and were there till well past 4pm. Predictably, they had used every jugaad on their phone list to meet the actor. “We managed to get the details of the flight, which he was flying through some jugaad at the airport, but after that, no luck!” rued Kashif.
The hotel staff were inundated with requests from all and sundry for one look at the actor. DJ Moni, who plays at the watering hole in the hotel on weekends, was among those waiting to meet the actor, and had asked friends at the hotel to help. Finally though, he managed without their assistance.
When we asked Iqbal, who was hanging around in the lobby for more than just a glimpse of the actor, about his jugaad, he just shrugged, smiled and said, “Hum log khud event organizers hain, humey kya jugaad ki zaroorat hai!” Latika, who rushed in at the nth hour, with her daughter and hubby in tow, also used the same trump card to gain access to the actor, and with some measure of succcess.
Finally, the journo friends came to the rescue of many avid Salman fans and their friends. Amit Singh, who waited some three hours to meet Khan, said he was there because a friend from the media told him he would arrange for a meeting.
