This was an evening many Lucknowites looked forward to. The English cricket team had arrived in town and we caught them on camera as they landed on Lucknow turf Thursday after their loss to the home team in Kanpur. Defeat notwithstanding, the squad arrived to enjoy the hospitality of the Indian teams main sponsors at their special venue and to chill out for a day before they moving onto Bangaluru.
The lads were accorded a warm and traditional welcome by Swapna Roy, Kumkum Roy Chaudhury and Abhijet Sarckar.
Armed with bouquets, the Britons didnt waste any time getting into the relaxed mode and after having freshened up, they headed for an informal dinner. While James Anderson busied himself with pool first, the rest munched on snacks. Kevin Pietersen exchanged pleasantries with Sarckar while Swapna Roy and Andrew Flintoff hit it off instantly and the two were spotted chatting most of the time. They all downed cocktails at leisure before tucking into a sumptuous spread of Mughlai, Italian and sea-food delicacies. Owais Shah and Samit Patel feasted on the Mughlai spread while Stuart Broad tried fish. Flintoff downed pasta with a quick shot while Paul Collingwood tasted a bit of everything. Traditional Indian sweets like gajak, gajar ka halwa, gulab jamun and sohan halwa disappeared faster than you could say more! Dressed in team colours, the players made for great eye candy. There must be something about an Englishman and his hat for we witnessed Ian Bell refusing to part with his cap for the better part of the evening. While the hostess looked charming as ever in her mauve-purple suit, sister-in-law Kumkum looked graceful in a pink and gold Bandhini.
