Short Circuit

The first ever sci-fi Gujarati movie is an action-thriller and drama, which revolves around the life of an average computer maintenance guy Samay (Dhvanit), who gets trapped in an evil plan hatched by a scientist. He must fight back to save his love Seema (Kinjal) and the world. Will Samay and his friend Bhopo (Smit) be successful?

We have to give it to the production house, director Faisal Hashmi and the entire team for attempting a sci-fi thriller in Gujarati. Considering it’s the first time this genre has been attempted, it’s a pretty decent effort-good VFX, a grand set-up and an interesting (although predictable) storyline. Faisal Hashmi deserves a pat on the back for showing considerable improvement as a filmmaker in his second movie. We also give a thumbs up to his cameo! The editing is crisp and sharp, which ensures that the film doesn’t feel stretched. Overall, the writers have done a good job but things get a tad boring just before the interval due to repetition of certain events. If you are a Hollywood movie buff, this film might remind you of various movies of this genre and the inspiration is pretty evident.

Coming to the performances, Dhvanit looks a lot more confident vis-à-vis his debut movie, although his stunts might not convince you entirely. Kinjal Rajpriya looks good as a news anchor and pulls off a totally different persona as compared to her Shu Thayu? image. Smit Pandya and Utkarsh Mazumdar know their art well and come up with good performances, even there's an impressive portrayal by Vikee Shah as Jacob.

Interestingly, there are no songs in this sci-fi drama and it is in tune with the mood, keeping the audience engrossed. Overall, it’s a decent watch for the weekend.
