Noted Kathak performer and documentary filmmaker
Dhiru Mistry from Vadodara, who has made some thought-provoking documentary films over the years, gets nostalgic while talking about the one he made about Kanti and Shanti, two blind brothers. Talking about the film, which was dubbed in 12 languages and even won a state award, Mistry says, I did a lot of homework for the project and read the book Timir Nu Tej by Dr.
Surendra Doshi of Rajpipla, where their life story had been narrated. The real challenge lay in making the brothers act, who were already in their 70s when I started shooting. There were a couple of men who guided the brothers whenever I wanted a retake or for any other instruction. In the end, it worked out beautifully and I felt great when the Film Advisory Board sent me a letter, saying that it was a very well made film.
