Karan Bhanushali, who has previously worked in Ahmedabad on the sequel of Deepesh Shah's 'Chaal Mann Jeetva Jaiye,' is currently busy with his next project ' Fakt Mahilao Maate' as a writer. ETimes approached him to learn more about his new responsibility.Excerpts from the interview.
What made you write 'Fakt Mahilao Mate'
The one-line idea was introduced to me by our director Jay Bodas. I wrote a demo scene for him based on that premise and the next thing I know, I was on board as a writer. I gave it a structure and helped in developing the story arch, screenplay and finally, we came down to dialogues. He stays in Baroda and we were in the middle of a lockdown. So the whole film was written with lots of discussions via zoom calls and conference calls.
What inspired you to put your thoughts to make a film on women?
I won't be able to say a lot about the content of the film but as the title suggests, the film is a family comedy-drama and women play an integral part in the story. Talking about inspiration, a lot of it was drawn from the women in my own family. Me, Jai, and Humayun, all three of us used to jam a lot, share anecdotes about women we know, and that used to help us write sequences.
The film I have written before is also a women-centric film.
How are you managing both acting and writing?
So, as I am shooting for a film as an actor, my other film as a writer 'Fakt Mahilao Maate' is also being shot simultaneously right here in Ahmedabad. As far as 'Fakt Mahilao Mate' is concerned, I am not acting in it. I have written the story, screenplay, and dialogues for that film. This is my second full-fledged film as a writer. Before this, I wrote for another film directed by Viral Shah which got done with its shoot last month. I had also written stand-up bits for 'Golkeri' with the same team. I've been shuffling between writing and acting for almost a decade now and I love exploring both crafts. So if everything goes well, I'll have three releases this year, both as an actor and a writer and I am enjoying this phase.
