Superstar Rajinikanth is experiencing an exciting phase in his career. After the massive success of Jailer, which grossed over Rs 600 crore globally, his fans are eagerly awaiting his next collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj for Coolie. Meanwhile, his latest release, Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, has received a positive response at the box office, earning Rs 110 crore in just five days in India.
The film has also seen a decent performance in North America, a region typically dominated by Telugu and Hindi films. Over the past four days, including its premiere shows, Vettaiyan has collected around US $2.4 million (approximately Rs 20 crore). However, it is currently trailing behind Rajinikanth's previous release, Jailer, by over Rs 40 crore in the same market. Jailer grossed over US $7.25 million ( Rs 60 crore) in North America during its full run, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film in that region.
Vettaiyan, a police procedural, features an impressive ensemble cast, including Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles. The film also marks a significant reunion between Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, their first collaboration in 32 years, since they last shared screen space in Mukul S. Anand’s Hum.
Rajinikanth recently underwent a non-surgical procedure to address swelling in the main blood vessel connected to his heart, he is expected to start shooting for Lokesh’s Coolie in the next few days. In the film he will be seen with Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sivakarthikeyan and Shruti Haasan.
