Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ becomes only the 12th film to cross Rs 500 crore mark in India

Back in 2022 when Rishab Shetty set out to make Kantara, neither he nor anyone involved with the film would have known what changes the film would bring about in the lives of everyone involved. The first installment went on to make nearly Rs 310 crore at the box office and the second instalment in just 17 days has minted Rs 506.25 crore and still has the potential to earn more. Many trade pundits believe that the film can cross the Rs 600 crore mark before it drops on the OTT platform at the end of 8 weeks and take the top spot which is held by Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. Kantara 2 has already become the second biggest film of this year .

As the film crossed Rs 500 crore, it became only the 12th film to do so and the difference between 12th and 13th film is about Rs 85 crore, had minted Rs 421 crore from its theatrical run.

It would be interesting to see how far would Kantara 2 go on from here as this Tuesday sees release of Thamma starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna along with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat with Hardhvardan Rane and Sonam Bajwa and on the other side it is already battling Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude, Dhurav Vikram’s Bison Kaalamaadan and many other films in Southern India.

Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 also features Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram and Rakimini Vasanth in pivotal roles.
