'The Accidental Prime Minister' box-office collection Day 1: Anupam Kher-Akshaye Khanna starrer Rs 3.50 crore

Much in the news for the controversies that it attracted in the run up to its release, Anupam Kher starrer 'The Accidental Prime Minister' has taken a decent opening at the box-office. According to a report by BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film collected Rs 3.5 crore.

Based on the book with the same name, 'The Accidental Prime Minister' chronicles former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s (Anupam Kher) relationship with his media advisor Sanjaya Baru (Akshaye Khanna). While the film focuses largely on how Baru struggled with managing Dr. Singh’s public image, it also touches upon United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s key milestones, like the nuclear deal and Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s undisputed authority within the party.

Anupam Kher, who plays Dr Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister, has called it his career-best performance. He also refuted allegations that the film favoured the ruling party. "We have made this film with a lot of sincerity and we don't have any political agenda behind the release of the film," he told IANS in an interview.
