It might be an unusual subject for a film, but young people seem to be enjoying this offbeat cinematic offering. It’s a 3D movie on Swami Vivekananda, which features an event from his life – his Chicago speech at the Parliament of Religions. About the film, Swami Shantatmananda, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Delhi, says, "On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birthday, we wanted to undertake a project that will have some permanence.
So we thought of this 15-minute movie, which will always be there. It is a joint project by the Ramakrishna Mission, Chennai and us. What makes this video special and different is that it has been made from collections of photographs."
The short film shows the journey of Vivekananda from India to USA for the speech. The ship that Vivekananda sailed on during his journey to the West has been depicted just as it would have been in any animated movie. There’s even a touch of humour in the conversation between the frogs, which is the part of the speech delivered by Vivekananda.
Tareeni, among the audience that came to watch the film, said, “I have come from Kerala for Shiv Ratri. I have not seen such a movie on Vivekananda before. This movie should have been a little longer. It was very short and the moment I started enjoying it, it ended.”
