Aastha Gill will be travelling this year on
Diwali and shares that she will miss the celebrations back home. We caught up with the Buzz singer three days before Diwali at her home in NCR, where she told us, “I am really excited because this is the first time I’ll be performing in Dubai on Diwali, and a cousin I am very close to lives there. I am going to go to his place to do the
puja and I’ll make a rangoli there because that’s a special Diwali tradition for me.
My cousin has not celebrated Diwali in the longest time with his family, so the day will be special for us both.”
Still, she will miss celebrating with family back home. “Before flying to Dubai, my family told me – ‘how can you not make rangoli at our home?’ So, I’ll make one two days before I leave,” she said, adding, “Rangoli is my thing, I start in the morning and I make it with colours, flower petals and candles. Before this, I used to stay in an apartment, so all the kids used to come to see my
rangoli, they used to be excited about ‘Aastha
kya banayegi?’.”
Aastha says, “The only other time I have missed Diwali celebrations at home was when I was in the US for a tour. It was actually one of the best experiences because everyone was sad a day prior to the festival, so the organisers arranged a puja for us.”
Aastha believes that there are “better ways to celebrate Diwali than by bursting crackers”. “The pollution gets really bad in NCR, and people – including me – face problems during this time of the year. One can also celebrate with your family in an eco-friendly way with flowers, singing and dancing,” she says.
