Amitabh Bachchan and
Jaya Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda has often made headlines for choosing entrepreneurship and business over a career in films. She also started her own podcast. Navya is the daughter of Shweta Bachchan Nanda and industrialist Nikhil Nanda, while her younger brother Agastya Nanda has stepped into movies. Recently, their father shared a humorous family anecdote that perfectly summed up the siblings' contrasting professional journeys.
Nikhil Nanda opened up about the close bond he shares with his children and revealed that their conversations go far beyond business matters. He said he is extremely close to both Navya and Agastya and that they discuss everything under the sun. While business naturally occupies a large part of his life, he makes a conscious effort not to let it dominate his relationship with them.
“It’s not necessary that I will talk about it all the time because that is not a way to build a bond with your children,” he shared in an interview with Shrishti Sahu.
Nikhil also reflected on how differently his children have chosen to shape their futures. While Agastya has ventured into acting, Navya has become increasingly involved in the family business. Recalling a light-hearted joke from within the family, he said, “My son says I became an actor; Navya is going towards tractor.”
The remark may have been made in jest, but it reflects the very different worlds the siblings now inhabit. Navya is associated with Escorts Kubota Limited, one of India's leading agricultural machinery and tractor companies, and represents the fourth generation of the Nanda business legacy.
Speaking about her role, Nikhil explained that both his children will continue to remain connected to the family's larger legacy while pursuing their own interests. “She’s representing the family office,” he said, adding that Navya and Agastya will eventually be involved in matters related to shareholding and governance.
Agastya, meanwhile, has been carving a path in Bollywood. The grandson of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan made his acting debut in 2023 with Netflix's 'The Archies', where he played Archie Andrews. His launch generated considerable attention, given his family's deep-rooted connection to Indian cinema. Later he was seen in Sriram Raghavan's 'Ikkis' which happened to be Dharmendra's last film.
