Actress, model and VJ Anusha Dandekar, who was BT’s cover girl yesterday with Lord Ganesh, called up to say she was besieged by calls from friends in all corners inviting her to celebrate the forthcoming Ganeshotsav with them.
Anusha, who is as Maharashtrian as one can be despite the appealing phirangi twang in her voice, normally celebrates the festival with her family in Pune.

Unless, of course, she is travelling on a shoot. But in Mumbai, she has several Ganpati idols at home. “Some are very cute,” she revealed. “And it’s not as if I worship Lord Ganesh only. I also have a Buddha and a Cross. I believe everyone’s belief is okay. We are all aiming at the same belief at the end of the day.”
The Ganpati idols have all been given to the attractive star by her friends. “I have been told that you should not buy your own God... but get Him as a gift. I’m lucky, I’ve been gifted so many Ganpatis, they all sit in a little shrine I have made in my kitchen.” However, she does not like immersing Lord Ganesh. “That’s my belief again,” she explained, “So there is no visarjan divas for me.”
This year, Anusha will celebrate Ganeshotsav with her friends Prarthana Chadha, who is her stylist, and Ravindra Samel, her makeup man.
“Prarthana has a huge Ganpati celebration at home and Ravindra is mad about the festival,” Anusha said. “I’ve missed the celebrations the last two years and they have threatened not to talk to me if I fail to join them this year.” Prarthana and Ravindra, incidentally, prepared Anusha for the BT shoot yesterday. While Susan Emmanuel styled her hair, Cypress dressed her up.
