The stunning sand sculpture bears a poignant message, “Tribute to Asha Tai — your voice will live in our hearts forever.”
A magnificent 20-feet-long Veena sand art installation was created as a symbol of devotion, music, and respect. The sculpture beautifully captures the grace and enduring legacy of Asha Ji, reflecting her timeless charm, artistic brilliance, and the deep emotional connection her voice forged with generations of music lovers. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, saying that the film industry has lost a legendary voice.
In a condolence message, he said that Asha Bhosle had entertained music lovers for several decades with more than 12,000 songs, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy in Indian cinema.
He noted that Asha Bhosle's melodious voice, simple demeanour, and affectionate nature had earned her a permanent place in the hearts of people across generations.
The Chief Minister said her passing marks the loss of a vital link between the old and new generations of music, creating an irreplaceable void in the industry.
He prayed that the legendary singer's soul rests in peace and expressed hope that her family, friends, and admirers would find the strength to bear the loss.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy said, "Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Asha Bhosle avaru, a towering legend whose voice defined generations of Indian music."
"Her unparalleled contribution to the world of music, marked by timeless melodies and extraordinary versatility, will continue to inspire artists and audiences alike," he added.
"My heartfelt condolences to her family, admirers, and the entire music fraternity. May her soul rest in peace," Union Minister Kumaraswamy said.

Former Chief Minister and BJP Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhosle, calling the news deeply painful.
In a message posted on X, Bommai said that with her melodious voice, Asha Bhosle won the hearts of music lovers for several decades, and the hundreds of immortal songs she rendered will remain etched in memory forever.
He noted that she had sung thousands of songs in more than 20 languages and made an immense contribution to Indian music, earning several prestigious honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
He said her passing is an irreparable loss to the world of music and that the entire world has lost a great artist.
He prayed that God grants peace to her soul and gives strength to her family and millions of admirers to bear the loss.
Speaking to ANI, Tandon said, “My journey with Aai started in 2003 when she sang a song of mine for the film Page 3, which was a National Award-winning film.”
He further shared a poignant memory linked to one of her final Hindi songs, “One of her last songs in Hindi has been done by me, which is written by my dear friend Prasoon Joshi. Usko bol hai ‘Jaane Do, Jaane Do, Khud Se Milna Hai, Jaane Do’. Isse woh bahut relate karti thi. Woh kehti thi ki ab bas bahut ho gaya, ab mujhe bahut ache tarike se chale jana hai. Khud se milna jana hai...”
He added, explaining her words, “The lyrics of the song were like ‘Jaane Do, Jaane Do, Khud Se Milna Hai, Jaane Do’. She would relate to it and used to say that she now wishes to go away peacefully and find herself again.”
‘Asha Tai nahi, meri Aai thi’
Describing their personal bond, Tandon said, “Asha Tai has always been like a mother to me. The world used to call her ‘Tai’, but I used to call her ‘Aai’. In Marathi, ‘Aai’ means mother. Whenever I went to her house, I used to talk to her for hours.”
He added, “This loss is not just of India or our Indian film industry. It is a loss to the world because she was very unique in her own way. She taught the whole world that innovation is very important in music.”
Sunday turned out to be a sad day for the Indian music industry as it lost its legendary singer Asha Bhosle.
Bhosle breathed her last at the age of 92. Doctor Prateet Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital confirmed that the veteran singer had been dealing with multiple health issues and died due to organ failure.
After learning about her demise, singer Sonu Nigam expressed his grief via an emotional post on Instagram.
"Curtain down on one of the Greatest ever crooners of all times. The last standing warrior of the Pioneering Era of Indian Film music, has called it Quits today and bid her Final Goodbye to us all. She lived a full life, destined for Extreme Vicissitudes and Challenges leading to Exceptional Greatness. She touched the lives of Billions over multiple decades through her music and effervescence," he wrote.

Taking to social media, he wrote, “Today, on the passing of my all time favourite singer, the legendary Asha Bhosle ji, I find myself reflecting deeply. In Rangeela, it’s Rahman who obviously composed the music, but it was Asha ji’s voice that infused it with an immortal soul and raw, youthful fire. ‘Rangeela Re’ wasn’t just a song, it was a thunderclap that shook Bollywood.”
He added, “Urmila Matondkar’s electrifying moves on the raw, pulsating streets of Mumbai fused seamlessly with Asha ji’s playful sensuality, mischievous energy, and unimaginable vocal range, creating pure cinematic magic that redefined the film music’s rebellious spirit.”
Recalling his experience in the studio, Varma said, “I remember her walking into the studio with the poise of a queen, yet carrying the wide eyed child like curiosity of a newcomer hungry to experiment with a New Age music director like Rahman. One take, a small adjustment in phrasing or emotion, and the magic flowed like a torrential storm.”
He further noted, “Coincidentally, today marks the 24th anniversary of her track ‘Khallas’ from my film Company. That ultra seductive, high octane number, with its thumping rhythm along with Asha ji’s commanding voice became a quintessential item song that still pulses with undefined energy.”
Summing up her legacy, he wrote, “Asha ji wasn’t just a singer, she was the heartbeat of an entire era, her voice flowing like a river through generations, bridging classical roots with modern beats across multiple languages and diverse emotions. Urmila Matondkar: ‘I’m not her fan, I’m her bhakt’
Urmila Matondkar, who featured in some of Asha Bhosle’s most iconic songs like Rangeela Re and Kambakht Ishq, also expressed her grief.
“Heart broken beyond words. Always told her I'm not her fan but her Ultimate Bhakt..My Goddess,” she wrote, sharing a series of pictures with the late singer.
Urmila was among the first to arrive at Asha Bhosle’s residence to pay her last respects. Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor Shabana Azmi were also seen visiting her residence, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Asha Bhosle, singer Kailash Kher has urged fans and the music fraternity to celebrate her unparalleled legacy rather than mourn her loss.
In a video message, Kher, while remembering her as a timeless voice that transcended generations, reflected on Bhosle's extraordinary contribution to Indian music.
"The way we celebrate the arrival of someone, we should also celebrate the departure in the same way, especially of those who have made their lives so meaningful and so purposeful," he said.
Honouring Asha Bhosle's legacy, he continued, "Such a person, who has sung songs all of her life and touched many people, will continue to inspire the coming generations."
Kailash Kher also dedicated his Padma Shri award to the late singer, further adding, "Nine years ago, the President gave me the Padma Shri. I offer this Padma Shri and honour such great people, who have inspired many people like us, and will continue to do so."

“Voices fade, but hers has only withdrawn into a deeper chamber of memory, where it will continue to resonate for those who have known longing through song. Each time she sang, something unseen was summoned—an alchemy of sur and soul that refused to belong to time,” he adds before reminiscing about the time he reached out to Asha Bhosle for Bollywood’s evergreen beauty ‘Umrao Jaan.’
“When I approached her for Umrao Jaan, with Khayyam shaping the music and Shahryar giving it language, to inhabit the world of Rekha, she sensed immediately that this was not a recording—it was a reckoning. She understood that she would have to travel beyond craft. That she would have to become the voice of a civilisation that once lived in tehzeeb, in restraint, in unspoken ache,” he narrates.
Reflecting on her craft, he adds, “She gave Lucknow a permanence that cinema had long denied it. In an industry often without place, she created one. To bring her into Awadh was not a direction—it was an invocation. The only distant echo was Begum Akhtar. Yet even that was not imitation, but inheritance. Both carried that rare, unnameable gift—the ability to dissolve and become. She knew this without being told. What lay before us was a shared challenge, though its solitude rested with me. And she met it with something that cannot be rehearsed—surrender. She did not sing for the character; she yielded to it. Such truth is rare in the architecture of commercial Hindi cinema. It is rarer still to be recognised, as it was, at the 29th National Film Awards.”

He continues, “After that, in ‘Zooni,’ where she gave voice to five songs, I found myself unable to imagine another. With Shahryaar and Khayyam, a certain language had been found—fragile, exact, complete. In ‘Daaman,’ for Gramco, she returned once more to that language, recording five songs that remain unheard, like unopened letters addressed to time itself.”
“Asha ji may no longer step into the light of the silver screen. But she has not left the human heart. That is her true mehfil. That is where she resides—unfading, unending. In the end, some voices do not fall silent. They simply choose to be heard from within,” he concludes in her loving memory.
“And you know such artists will never be born again. Lata ji herself used to say that Asha ji is a very versatile artist. There is no doubt about it. I feel that Asha ji has contributed a lot to our music. I think she has sung more of our (Jatin-Lalit) songs in her last period than for any other composers. ‘Khiladi,’ ‘Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha,’ ‘DDLJ,’ ‘Return of Jewel Thief,’ he added while speaking to us.
Lalit Pandit's last call to Asha Bhosle
"I called her a few weeks ago. I came to know that she was not well. She picked up the phone herself, and it was a very long conversation," said Lalit Pandit, recalling his last call with Asha Bhosle.
"I told her, I want to meet you; you are not well. It had been a year since I met her. The last time I saw her was at Shanmukhananda Hall, where she performed. We did not meet again after that," he added.

Further in the conversation, he shared, "We used to sing Asha ji's songs at every function. She was our family. And the happiest thing for us is that she used to come to the music room to rehearse every song. We used to keep the whole day free for her rehearsal because she used to sit and chat; she was a very lively lady. She was a very young-hearted lady."
"Asha ji has left. I hope that Asha ji's blessings will always be on us. And on our family. And the love and guidance that I have received from her. I will be indebted to her for the rest of my life," he concluded.
The 'Sholay' director Ramesh Sippy expressed his grief over the passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle on Sunday. He described the singer's death as the passing away of a "century".
In an interview with ANI, Ramesh Sippy called Asha Bhosle's demise a "deeply painful loss". He called the late singer a "wonderful" person who will be remembered by her timeless music.
"The passing away of Asha ji is indeed a painful moment. Asha Ji was absolutely marvellous, both as a singer and as a person. Her passing away is like a century passing away. She's been part of history, will always be part of music history... Whatever she sang will always be remembered and will continue to be remembered through her songs. She was also a wonderful person," said Ramesh Sippy.
The devotees at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat paid tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle by observing a two-minute silence prior to the commencement of the Ganga Aarti on Sunday.
Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92, marking the end of an era in Indian music. She died at Breach Candy Hospital, where she had been admitted on Saturday evening following extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.
Confirming the cause of death, Dr Pratit Samdani said, "Asha Bhosle breathed her last today in Breach Candy Hospital. She passed away due to multi-organ failure."
Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news and shared details of the final rites, saying, "My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm tomorrow at Shivaji Park."
Observing a two-minute silence, people offered prayers for the peace of Asha Bhosle's departed soul at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Holding posters in their hands and offering lamps in the waters of the Ganges, they prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
“For the whole industry, for the whole country, for the whole world. I am a big fan of hers. And this is a very sad thing, it's a big loss. It's the end of an era,” Aamir told reporters in Shirdi.
Reflecting on her legacy, he added, “The four great singers - Lata (Mangeshkar) didi, (Mohd) Rafi saab, Kishor (Kumar) da and Asha Ji. So it's the end of an era, I feel. And it's a very sad day for all of us.”
He further said, “My heartfelt condolences to the country, all our fans, her family, everyone. We are all her family. We pray that her soul may rest in peace.”
Taking to social media, Salman wrote, “A huge loss for Indian music.... Heartbroken to hear about Asha ji. An irreplaceable voice, Your songs will continue to inspire generations.”
Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor Shabana Azmi were seen arriving at the late Asha Bhosle’s residence in Lower Parel to pay their last respects, as the industry continues to mourn the loss of the legendary singer.
Saira revealed that she had recently spoken to the singer, making the loss even more personal.
“I recently spoke to her during the month of Ramzan. I had seen an interview of hers where she was speaking of Ramzan, Eid and fasting so lovingly. I was so surprised! She conveyed a beautiful message of unity, togetherness, love and affection among people. I was thrilled with the way she spoke. She always spoke so well. I called her to speak to her about it.”
“That was the last time that I spoke to her, not realising that soon enough, she would be so unwell. It came as a surprise to me. I remember seeing a video of hers attending a function (hinting at Arjun Tendulkar’s wedding) and she looked terribly weak. That was the last time that I saw her. It was absolutely shocking to see her that way. I never expected her to be so unwell all of a sudden.”

Veteran actor Helen, who shared one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic singer-performer partnerships with Bhosle, expressed deep grief.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Helen said, “This is shocking. She was so healthy and we had been in touch. I’m feeling terrible and short of words. We had a long friendship. I remember how she would modulate her voice and add that oomph to my songs, which made it more enjoyable to perform. We have lost a gem.”
The duo created magic together in over 270 songs, delivering timeless hits like O Haseena Zulfonwali (Teesri Manzil, 1966), Aa Jaane Jaan (Intaqam, 1969), Piya Tu Ab To Aaja (Caravan, 1971), Mehbooba Mehbooba (Sholay, 1975) and Yeh Mera Dil (Don, 1978). Their collaboration became synonymous with glamour, rhythm and unmatched screen presence.
