Avinash Tiwary calls out industry hypocrisy after 'Laila Majnu' success; Actor reveals he was called ‘bechara’
Avinash Tiwary starrer in the 2018 film 'Laila Majnu', but, sadly the film was taken out from the theatres just after three days run due to poor performance.Avinash Tiwary has now opened up about the contrasting reactions he received around his 2018 film. Years later, its 2023 re-release turned it into a success story.

'Laila Majnu ' - From failure to cult favourite

Laila Majnu initially struggled at the box office. It was taken off screens quickly after release. However, public demand led to its re-release in 2023. The film then clocked double its original earnings and enjoyed a theatrical run of over a month.Avinash noticed a big change in people’s attitude after the re-release success. Many who had pitied him earlier suddenly sought his advice.Talking to News 18, he said, "One thing I’ve understood over the years is that yahaan kisi ko kuch nahi pata. Nobody knows anything. If a film of mine works, they’ll laud me and then come to me for advice. After Laila Majnu re-released and became a success, so many people came to me asking for advice.”He added that he now responds as if he is an expert. Before the success, the narrative was very different.“I’ve also started talking to them like I’m some expert. Prior to that, they would say, ‘Arrey, bechara!’ The idea of self-importance in this industry is so much.
Everyone thinks so highly of themselves.”

Avinash Tiwary on defying industry templates

Avinash believes he has always had access to opportunities despite lacking a blockbuster. He sees himself as an exception where usual rules do not apply.“My first film ensured what I’m capable of and the industry fairly got an understanding of it. The rest of it was a product of how destiny unraveled itself. I don’t have a blockbuster to my name to show off but I’ve worked with the biggest production houses of this country.”He pointed out that he did not even have 100K Instagram followers until 2024, yet he continued to headline projects. The actor has taken on parallel leads in 'Madgaon Express' and 'The Mehta Boys', and antagonist parts in 'O’Romeo' and 'Khakee: The Bihar Chapter'. Avinash refuses to worry about how these choices might limit future lead roles.“If there’s something that wrecks and affects me the most is this idea of templates. I’ve never taken them seriously. I don’t believe in ki aisa hi hota hai, aisa hi karna padhta hai. All of this is just chatter for me.”Meanwhile, his recent outing 'O.Romeo' did a mixed box office performance.
