The list of 65th National Film Award winners was released today by the Directorate of Film Festivals. Veteran actor Vinod Khanna has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the Indian cinema.

Vinod Khanna is the second actor who has been honoured posthumously with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Earlier renowned actor Prithviraj Kapoor was also presented with the award post his demise. His son Raj Kapoor had accepted the award on his behalf.

Vinod Khanna passed away on April 27 last year at the age of 70 after battling with cancer. His son Rahul posted a heartfelt message on Twitter after the awards were announced. He wrote “So proud to hear that my dad has been posthumously awarded India’s highest honour in cinema, the #DadasahebPhalkeAward at the #NationalFilmAwards!"


Apart from Vinod Khanna, late actress Sridevi was also conferred as the Best Actress for her brilliant performance in the 2017 revenge film 'MOM'.

The official ceremony will be held on May 3, where President Ram Nath Kovind will hand-over the awards to the winners.
