Bollywood has seen many actors playing police officers and giving superlative performances
Cop act in Bollywood
In Bollywood, just the sight of an honest policeman's uniform has given sleepless nights to the goons. Honesty and the position of power make for a lethal combo in B-town.
Earlier, it was Iftikhar who was known for playing maximum number of police inspector roles. And even today, an honest cop role is much coveted. Recently, Ajay Devgn made for a tough-as-nails cop in Singham, something he played in Gangaajal earlier.

Aamir Khan, who's played a cop before in Sarfarosh, is donning a cop-role again in Reema Kagti's next. We look at some memorable cop films in Bollywood:
Dabangg and Wanted: As Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg, Salman Khan was a riot. With his spunky act and some mind-blowing dialogues to match, this cop act by the actor was worth a watch. Whereas in Wanted, the actor played an undercover cop, and earned accolades for dialogues like 'Ek baar jo maine committment kar li...' We're still applauding.
Shool: In this 1999 film, Manoj Bajpai gave an impressive performance as Police Inspector Samar Pratap Singh, who is trasferred to Bihar. Dealing with the absolute destruction of law and order there, he also has to deal with the death of his wife and daughter. Bajpai received the Filmfare Critics Best Actor award for his role.
Ardh Satya: A film that looked at the lives of policemen and what they have to deal with on a daily basis, Ardh Satya saw Om Puri deliver a powerhouse of a performance. The actor won a National Award for his role in the film. Apparently, Amitabh Bachchan was offered the role but he didn't take it up.
Zanjeer: Amitabh Bachchan had his own set of cop films. Khakhee, Dev, Shehenshah, Akayla, Bunty Aur Babli have all seen him play cops with different shades. But the image of his that's difficult to forget is that of him from Zanjeer, the film that catapulted him to fame and gave him the title of 'angry young man'.
Shootout at Lokhandwala: Based on the life of underworld don Maya Dolas, the film dealt with a bunch of cops trying to free Mumbai from the clutches of the underworld. Sanjay Dutt, heading the operation, was in his element as a police officer.
