The picturisation of the Dama Dam Mast Kalandar track in writer-director Bejoy Nambiar’s David has not gone down well with some members of the Sindhi community, with requests pouring in to take the video off air. Their complaint? That it isn’t right to pair the song with lovemaking scenes and violent sequences. Bejoy reasons the inclusion of the track in the film, saying, “I’m not taking the song off.
We didn’t include it to hurt or anger anyone. Though I do understand the concern, I’m not hurting any religious sentiments. No one does anything in their film just to upset people.
Dama Dam Mast Kalandar is an iconic track and this song will definitely find a larger audience.”
Bejoy says he will let the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) intervene. “I am confident that the Board will have no problems with the song because we haven’t shot it in a derogatory way,” says the director, whose film releases on Feburary 1.
