Dibakar Banerjee caught off guard by "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" release; learns of it from Arjun Kapoor

Dibakar Banerjee, the filmmaker behind "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar," shared insights into the unconventional release of the film in 2021. In an interview with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia, Banerjee revealed that neither he nor Arjun Kapoor were aware of the film's streaming release, and they discovered it only when it appeared on OTT.


According to Banerjee, Arjun Kapoor called him to break the news of the film's release, highlighting the surprising lack of marketing for the project. Banerjee expressed his concern, stating that he saw it, there was no marketing, nothing… So what happens is, you realize that you are a problem. He added that it released on OTT, so at least a few people watched it. However, there was a bigger issue at play there.




"Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar," distributed by Yash Raj Films, initially faced delays in its theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After being postponed for a year, the film finally hit theaters on March 19, 2021, followed by its release on OTT. Despite the unconventional release, the film received critical acclaim at the time.
