The stampede happened due to a heavy rush of devotees who came to pay their obeisance on the first day of the New Year, the officials have said.
The ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ director has always been vocal on social issues expressing his views and his social media posts always garner a lot of appreciation. Incidentally, Abhishek who directed the film ‘Kedarnath’ has a deep connection with the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Actress Raveena Tandon, too, shared her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. She tweeted: "My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and my prayers for those who are injured at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan at Katra due to a stampede."

Meanwhile, the ace filmmaker has received appreciation from critics and cinelovers over the last two weeks for his latest film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in the lead. Even the film’s box office outing was also a decent one. It was interesting to see a film with a protagonist as a transgender being accepted by audiences. The actor-director feels that the problem is not with the transgender community but with our society.
