Eesha Koppikhar, is a majestic five feet and seven inches tall, which is literally head and shoulders above the average Indian woman (and a lot of men, too!). Eesha started her career as a model and made her debut in the film industry with South Indian cinema. She's worked in a number of Hindi movies too. Although she hails from Mangalore, she speaks fluent Marathi.
Apart from
acting, she is also a spokesperson for a well-known animal rights organisation and feels strongly about animals kept in cages.Eesha talks to us about the status of item numbers, the casting couch, and her upcoming films. Item galThe item lass, who got acknowledged in the industry after the item numbers, Ishq Samunder...from Kaante and Khallas from Company, feels the 'item girl' trend has been overused in the industry and is not a novelty anymore. Now it's time for Eesha to move away from item numbers and do more versatile and substantial roles. Style mantraWhat's Eesha up to these days? Is it yoga? "Yoga is the mantra for our busy schedules and stressful lives. It not only helps to calm one's emotions but gives you a perfect figure too." She feels Kareena's size zero in Tashan can be attributed more to yoga than anything else. For Eesha, smiling and having a positive attitude paves the way for success. "Be rooted, honest and good at heart. God will do the rest for you." She gives autographs with om written on top. When asked what the connection is, Eesha smiles, "I am a little god fearing" she says.Casting couchWe asked her if she believes in the existence of the casting couch. She answers firmly, "It does exist and prevails in every other profession. You name it and you will find it. It's a reality in the context of cut-throat competition." She goes on to explain, "In every profession, people indulge in actions that are unethical to reach the top. Don't malign my profession alone."Coming up next...Five of her films are lined up for the year 2008 and like any other actor, Eesha too is waiting for the release dates and of course the Box Office responses. When asked whether the IPL fever would have an impact on the BO in the coming years, pat came the reply, an obvious yes, as the release of one of her movies, Hello was postponed because of the IPL series. Giving us some detail about Hello, Eesha says, "The story is based on the novel, One Night @ the Call Centre by Chetan Bhagat and revolves around five friends and their life at a call center."Last wordEesha loves the city, as she has loads of friends here to hang around with. The Konkani beauty liked the new airport at Shamshabad and shared memories of her last trip to the city, "I came to the city one-an- a half years back and I still remember the long ride that I had on the Necklace Road and a memorable trip to the Buddha statue." Eesha raised her voice to announce that she really wants to come frequently to the city, which can only be possible if she gets a Tollywood calling. "I really want to do Tollywood." she said signing off.Hhhmmm. The item girl is all set to go. Are Tollywood directors listening?hyderabadtimes@indiatimes.com
