Emraan Hashmi (TOi photo)Emraan Hashmi doesnt know much about cricket, but has done an entire film, the basic plot of which deals with cricket. Yes, Im no big cricket fan, but I played a bookie in Jannat. But then, bookies dont need to be interested in cricket, he says.
Is it true that he met real bookies to get into the skin of his character better, a la Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas, who actually got drunk on the sets to play a convincing Devdas? I did meet real bookies to understand the finer nuances of my character.
For some key scenes in the film, I wanted to know how bets are placed, etc. I met both bookies and ex-bookies for that.
And considering Im not a cricket fan, I needed to know the backdrop clearly, he says, adding, But if there is an India-Pakistan match happening, I do watch it. And if my friends are over, then we also catch up on one or two IPL matches.
Talking about Pakistan, he is a popular name there. At the Jannat premiere in Lahore, his fans praised him lavishly and gave him all the attention he could handle, and then some more. Pakistan is a great place and I love the people there. I was waiting to touch base with my Pak fans ever since Awarapan was released there. I got that opportunity now and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I had heard about my fan following in Pakistan and I got to meet some of them on this trip, says Emraan.
And his recent movie has got decent reviews at the BO too! Jannats release couldns have been timed better. With the IPL, the backdrop was great and the movie has an interesting storyline too. No actor has ever played a bookie before this, says a happy Emraan.
These days, Emraan is busy with Raaz 2. I am concentrating on one film at a time now. I wont say much about my role in Raaz 2, but Ill say that it is a completely new take on horror. There is a love story in it too.
And how is marriage treating him? Married life is treating me well. I had been seeing my wife for quite some time before marriage, we are doing good together, answers Emraan.
