Eros International limited has reacted to the summons issued by the chief metropolitan magistrate court for the alleged delay in payment of tax deduction at source. When contacted the company spokesman said, "It is an old matter and sub judice. We are compliant with the law and will cooperate with the authorities. We have no further comments on the issue." Eros International has been directed to appear before the court on November 7.
It is alleged that Eros International delayed the payment of tax deducted at source amounting to around Rs 18 crore for the financial years 2016-17 and 2017-18.
The two cases against Eros were initiated in 2019 wherein the first matter involved an amount of Rs 10 crore, which was deducted in 2016-17 while in the second case, a total amount of Rs 7.77 crore was deducted in 2017-18. In this matter, the offences are punishable under sections 276B and 278B of the
Income Tax Act.
Eros International is managed by brothers Kishore Lulla and
Sunil Lulla. They've produced many Bollywood films like Ram-Leela,
Bajirao Mastani and the recent Haseen Dilruba, too.
