Director Abhinav Kashyap, of Dabangg fame feels that "the film makers have realised the power of people of UP and Bihar. UP is more populous than Europe so they have started catering to the audience of UP and Bihar rather than making films based in Europe. A Hindi speaking foreigner is no longer acceptable to audience who have certainly matured with times. The combined power of these states have the ability to give tremendous BO returns which has made the film makers to turn to these areas for their work.
I will not take the credit for initiating this as Dabangg was part of the trend that had already started with films like Shyam Benegal's
Welcome to Sajjanpur and Prakash Jha's Rajneeti. These films reflected that cinema had moved to the hinterland . These areas with their colour and conflict give interesting tales for the dream merchants to weave into a film. This process can be accelerated and more and more film makers can come to UP if the government takes some initiative in terms of infrastructure and other requirements," he says
