MUMBAI: Film-maker Raj Kumar Barjatya of Rajshri Productions, the torchbearer of the ‘family film’ genre in Hindi, passed away on Thursday. He was 75 and had been admitted to a hospital in south Mumbai after suffering cardiac arrest. Barjatya was best known as the producer of popular hits since the 1980s like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Vivaah’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.
His latest film is Hum Chaar.
Raj Babuwas the link between the illustrious past and present generations of the grand old Rajshri Pictures, which was reportedly founded on August 15, 1947. Raj Kumar was the son industry doyen Tarachand Barjatya, and father of its present owner
Sooraj Barjatya. Barjatya’s last rites were performed at Worli crematorium around 4.30pm.
