However, we hear it wasn’t planned — Harbhajan was taken to the venue by his friends. According to a source, who was a part of the gang that convinced the off-spinner to land up at the venue, it took them a while to execute their operation.

“The buddies were at the cricketer’s house and were chit chatting. One of them tossed the idea and it took almost one hour to get on with the task,” said the source. Bhajji, along with 25 friends, ventured out from their home and paid a visit, besides meeting the guests there. We hear initially Bhajji was hesitant but then his friends simply did not give up.
“The action went on for quite some time as the bride’s side was happy to have the mundey valey (boy’s side) add to the celebrations. The boy gang stayed at the mehendi venue— on the outskirts of Jalandhar— for long. They danced for a while and also interacted with Basra. Also, there was a special shayari session along with cracking of jokes.”
The fact that it was an unplanned visit can be figured out from the way Bhajji was dressed. He was spotted in a casual T-shirt. We hear Bhajji stood quiet and was a little shy, as his friends from school, childhood and the cricket field kept taking the banter to a different level.
Bhajji's wedding functions are full of surprise
Cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s wedding with actress Geeta Basra is constantly springing surprises. With what’s being perceived as a highly secretive affair, the lavish itinerary and programme details are not even revealed to guests. While there are restrictions on mobile phones and cameras, there are more than 150 bouncers from Mumbai and Punjab who are guarding the area and keeping a close watch on everything.

Sources said the cricketer had also asked for police security, owing to the rising tension in Punjab over the desecration of a bir of Guru Granth Sahib. On Tuesday night, the sangeet ceremony of the couple took place at a farmhouse, located amid green fields near Phagwara— 20 km from Jalandhar. The cricketer was seen sporting white pajami teamed with a pink kurta, turban and an embroidered waist-coat.
Sources say the couple has planned to opt for traditional attire a long time back. And for all the functions, including the wedding on October 29, special emphasis is on traditional designer clothes.
Things are being planned well in advance with chefs being flown in from abroad, including the US. Bollywood singer Mika and Gurdas Maan gave a splendid performance at the sangeet. The mehndi for the guests at Bhajji’s house was done by artists from Mumbai and Delhi.
Separate importance has been given to the sweets section. The cricketer has roped in a Jalandhar-based sweet house for the Shagun ceremony on the eve of their wedding. According to the information, 12 platters (thaal) of sweets include two thaal each ofbadam barfi, anjeer barfi, kaju barfi, shahi dry fruit chikki, and ladoo are being prepared along with 10 boxes of sweets, which has shahi badam pinni, chana barfi, shahi madhupak, shahi patisa and super soft milk cake. Besides the choice of sweets, the off-spinner has ordered fruit baskets, dry fruit platters etc.
Wedding plans
The wedding, which will happen on Thursday, is going to see several guests including some cricketers too. We hear Nita Ambani and her family is visiting to bless the newlyweds. Cricketers like Pragyan Ojha and Bhajji’s teammates from Punjab too will attend the wedding. The ceremony of Anand Karaj will take place at a Gurdwara at Guru Nanak Mission Netarheen Birdh Ashram near Jalandhar. Also, the plume which will be affixed to cricketer’s turban on the wedding has been made in Baroda.
