Vipul Shah, Film Director, on his next release after Aankhen.
Post-Aankhen, you are readying to direct your next film.
What is it all about?
Well, I am almost ready. As of now, it is an untitled film which will be produced by Vashu Bhagnani. Like my debut film, Aankhen the script for this film has also been adapted from a play and is almost ready. It is a drama about the relationship between a father and son.
What about the cast of the movie?
Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar will play the roles of the father and son. We have also signed up Paresh Rawal for the film, but are yet to sign on a female lead.
Did you decide on repeating the cast of Aankhen because you are comfortable with the actors?
Yes, I share a comfort level with these three actors because I worked with them in Aankhen, but this isn’t the main reason why we will work together again. Mr Bachchan is a dream actor to work with and Paresh Rawal is brilliant in his own right. As for Akshay, his performance in Aankhen was a revelation. Moreover, Mr Bachchan and Akshay look convincing as a father-and-son pair.
But Aankhen didn’t do too well at the box-office.
This is a misconception. Though the film wasn’t an all-India hit, it did good business in the metros. Aankhen wasn’t a film meant for people in the interiors. Apart from the metros, the film also did well abroad.
Are you still associated with theatre and TV?
I am still involved with theatre, but not in an active manner. It has been two years since I directed a play. But TV is still a medium I am connected with. Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka, for which I am creative director, is about to complete 1,000 episodes. I am also making another serial, tentatively titled Lakherein. TV, unlike films, gives me the freedom to experiment.
