Sandalwood newbie Biaenca Desai has reservations about kissing scenes, with one exception
Biaenca Desaiis thrilled about her first film, Rocky. But she couldnt be in Bangalore for its release as shes currently shooting for S Narayans Chellidaru Malligeya. Hes very strict about his shooting schedule. I cried, asking him to let me go, but he didnt allow me to, she says. But Biaencas had a reason to smile as well. She got a call from Puneet Rajkumar, who appreciated her dancing in Gulama, which will release next week. It was a dream come true when Puneet called me after choreographer Imraan showed him the songs from Gulama. He said hed never seen a dancer like me in the Kannada industry, which is a quite a compliment, she gushes. Its been quite a journey for Biaenca, who moved from Australia to Mumbai to study. She started by doing ads and her first filmi break was a supporting role in the Ileana-starrer, Jalsa. I had a plum role in the film, but the director edited out so much that people didnt get to see me in the film, she explains.
But now shes struck gold in Sandalwood. After Rocky and Gulama, Biaenca has Yogi slated for release in February. And she may consider moving to Bangalore. Ill shift here from Mumbai provided Im in demand like Ramya and Pooja Gandhi, she says. Shes impressed with the respect that artistes get in the Kannada film industry. If you dont know the language, theyll help you. I had a problem while making Rocky, but now I try and give interviews in Kannada and Ive started signing autographs in the language, she asserts. Biaenca has designed some of her own costumes for Gulama and wouldnt mind designing for other Kannada stars. After all, she studied fashion design in Sydney. Fashion design is my job and films are my passion. Id never give up my work, she says.
Unlike most starlets, Biaenca doesnt have an assistant and travels to shoots alone. Does she feel vulnerable to the casting couch? Im the kind of person whos childish on the sets even though Im mature enough to understand these things. But I feel do haath se thali bajtha hai and men will respond only if you give them certain signals. If you dont, theyll never have the guts to come up to you. Since Im not here for the money, I dont have to get into messy situations, she says confidently.Being in Mumbai for five years, why didnt she try her luck in Bollywood? I had offers to act with Emraan Hashmi and Bobby Deol. But Bobby is not hot in the market and Emraan kisses every heroine he works with on-screen, she says matter-of-factly. What if the role demands a kiss? Ive sort of done a kissing scene in Yogi. It depends on the the script, not on what the audience wants. But I dont mind kissing Ranbir Kapoor; hes cute, she says.
