I&B ministry to organise workshop on film restoration

NEW DELHI: The National Film Archives of India (NFAI) under the aegis of the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry will conduct a workshop to augment its infrastructure and capacity for restoring old films and to build an indigenous resource of film archivists and restorers who can work towards saving India's cinematic heritage in the future.The 10-day workshop will include intensive practical training in film archiving, preservation and restoration, conservation of film posters, production stills, photographic prints, documentation and cataloguing and film curatorship.The international workshop, to be inaugurated by I&B secretary Sunil Arora, will be conducted in association with faculty from FIAF, George Eastman Museum, Museum of Modern Art and L'Immagine Ritrovata. About 48 participants from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be part of the workshop.
The workshop would impart hands on experience with various techniques and processes involved with conservation, restoration of films, photographs and documents. The course would also cover elements of documentation, cataloguing and digital preservation. The international faculty would include David Walsh, Paolo Cherchi Usai, Davide Pozzi, Richard Wright, Thelma Ross, Camille Blot Wellens, Spencer Christiano, Nancy Kauffman, Taina Miller, Benjamin Tucker, Jurij Meden, Marianna De Sanctis, Silvia Spadotto, Gilles Barberis, Emanuele Vissani, Christophe Dupin and Kristen Merola.
