Indori Actress Purva Parag plays Irrfan’s mom in a film

City-bred Purva Parag, who is a known name in the theatre circuit, has been creating waves in tinseltown as well. After playing Ranbir Kapoor’s mom in 'Barfi!' and another role in 'Hasee Toh Phasee', she will be seen in two interesting films — while she will play Irrfan’s mother in Madari, she has a pivotal role in Rajat Kapoor’s Waiting.
Though this mother of a young boy refused to reveal details about her roles in the films, she says, “Although my journey began long ago, nothing fruitful happened initially. It’s only after motherhood that I got a lot of opportunities.”

A product of the National School of Drama, she started her journey as an actress only to earn pocket money.However, she says it was her association with the Abhinav Rangmandal group that slowly turned her hobby into a burning passion. She has done workshops, acting sessions and plays with the group, said to be one of the biggest in Indore, and credits her success to it. “The art of acting that I learnt while working on theatre productions with them has made my journey as an actress easy,” she says.

Purva is presently based out of Mumbai, and visited Indore and Ujjain recently. “Indore has always had a rich history of culture and arts. But I remember, sometime in the mid 90s, there were only a few of us who were serious about theatre. But now, I see a completely different face of theatre here. It has evolved and how! A lot of professionalism and discipline has come into the craft and more youngsters are participating in it, which is a positive thing for theatre.”
