Irrfan Khan died at 53, at a Mumbai based hospital today. The actor was undergoing treatment for colon infection, but succumbed to the ailment. Known for his acting chops and dubbed as India's face in the West, Irrfan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018. While he was in Mumbai, he lost his mother in Jaipur three days ago.

Tanuja Chandra, who helmed his starrer Qarib Qarib Singlle, released in 2017. While talking to Bombay Times, she said, “Even though he had a long career, I think it had only just begun. He had so much more to discover within himself as an artiste. A fantastic artist, it’s a major loss for our cinema, our stories.” Talking about his performance in her film, which also starred Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, Neha Dhupia, Isha Sharvani among others, Tanuja says, “I was thrilled to watch the beauty he brought to the character in my film, it is a performance I’ll always cherish.”
