Actress Janhvi Kapoor has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life in a candid conversation. Let's learn more about it.

Janhvi Kapoor opens up about drinking after trauma

On the podcast 'Figuring Out' with Raj Shamani, Janhvi Kapoor did not shy away from addressing the topic directly. She said, "I would not say I was addicted or I was abusing alcohol, but I was drinking frequently. And this was after a very traumatic experience in my life. I felt the need to just like, 'I need to get drunk'."
The actress described how the drinking was a coping mechanism during what was clearly a turbulent time in her personal life. What made Janhvi reassess her habits was not a dramatic breaking point, but it was something far more subtle and visceral. She explained, "I didn't like what it was doing to my body. I didn't like how I was feeling when I was waking up. That feeling of a hangover – it gives me such an ick. It started…it was so weird. I could smell on myself a smell very familiar to someone in my life who struggled with addiction, and I would associate that smell with, 'Okay, it's not a good day'.
"After she recognised that smell on herself, it served as a quiet but firm wake-up call.

Janhvi Kapoor's alcohol awareness initiative issues statement

Janhvi Kapoor’s alcohol addiction awareness initiative released a statement on Sunday (May 3), clarifying that her recent comments about alcohol had been misinterpreted by certain sections of the media. The initiative stated it noticed that "certain media pages misrepresenting content associated with this initiative and Janhvi Kapoor. This is deeply concerning."It statement further read, "We want to be clear, Janhvi Kapoor is part of this conversation as a caregiver and ally, not as someone who has had any personal experience of addiction or alcohol dependence. Such misrepresentation not only diminishes her role, but also undermines and disrespects the real, lived experiences of those battling addiction and those supporting them. Let’s not trivialise efforts to lend a healing hand to a critical problem by misleading information for the sake of clickbait."
