Jisshu Sengupta: Kajol pushes her co-actors to do better
Jisshu Sengupta, who shares screen space with Kajol in the latest season of The Trial, is all praise for his co-star’s dedication and spontaneity. The Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi actor says that working with Kajol was one of the most fulfilling aspects of being part of the show. “There are a very few people who I love and Kajol is one of them. I am a big fan of her,” he shares. Reminiscing his connection with her family, Jisshu recalls, “I have worked with Tanuja aunty (her mother) in the Bengali film Sonar Pahar. We played son and mother and I was shaking with nervousness while doing the scenes. I have grown up watching her films. We had a great bonding too.”
Speaking about their contrasting approaches to acting, Jisshu says, “You can’t take the craft or learn the craft from an actor who is spontaneous because you don’t know the trick. You don’t know how he or she has been emoting from which angle. If you have a method actor as your co-star then you know iska method yeh hai and that I can learn,” he explains.
Jisshu is particularly struck by how Kajol’s spontaneity brings out the best in her fellow actors. “Kajol being a spontaneous actor — you see her reactions only when the camera is on and then you get the push… ki woh yeh iss scene pe aise react kar rahi hai, then I have to do this. She actually pushes her co-actors to do better, which is brilliant. I firmly believe that acting is more about reacting than delivering lines,” he says, adding that in Kajol, he found a partner who elevates that dynamic.
