Director Sanjay Khanduri claims that Kismat, Love and Paisa are the three needs of modern day mortals like Roti, Kapda aur Makaan once were.
This might be the most unusual combination in terms of inspiration, but it is true. The title of director Sanjay Khanduri’s film Kismet Love Paisa Dilli is inspired by veteran filmmaker Manoj Kumar’s hit film, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan.

“The title of a film is the closest interpretation of the story as per any director. If Steven Soderbergh can keep abstract name like ‘Sex Lies and Video Tapes’, Dibanker Banerji as ‘Love Sex aur Dhoka’ or Director-actor Manoj Kumar as ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’ then why not ‘Kismet Love Paisa Dilli’, says director Sanjay Khanduri. “The thought that went into this title is actually inspired from ‘Roti Kapda aur Makaan’ the three needs of a man which in modern day has changed Kismet, Love and Paisa,”
Earlier the film was supposed to be titled Gyaara Chalis Ki Last Metro, but the title was later changed to KLPD. “Earlier the film was mounted as a sequel to Ek Chalis Ki Last Local. But the distributors felt a little differently about the title and said that for a film that is more than triple the budget of Ek Chaalis… the title should have more impact. Keeping their opinion in mind we looked at what we had in the film with us. We realized that the film is about destiny, it talks about money and love in Delhi. So Kismet Love Paisa Dilli fell in place. And the strong connect to the three needs of today’s time in a youth’s life!” explains Sanjay.
