Gliding on the road with the wind in his hair and the roar of the engine is when
Kunal Kemmu is in his element. Be it with his friends from the industry, like Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, or his childhood buddies, the Lootcase actor enjoys road trips and riding along the winding road. Excerpts from a chat:
‘My last bike ride was in Ladakh’Recalling his last bike trip, the actor, who owns a Ducati Scrambler, BMW R1250 GS and KTM Duke 390, says, “The last one was in Ladakh a few months ago with two of my childhood friends. We went for about six days and saw some of the most beautiful places. We were lucky to ride on the highest motorable pass in the world at Umling La.”

‘My love affair with bikes began with their sound’Talking about how his love affair with two-wheelers began, Kunal shares, “It started with just the sound and the look, like how stylish they appear. That was followed by my bike rides with my grandfather and uncle. It was further solidified by the movies and ads one saw with these beasts that were not even available in India back then.”
‘I bought my bike only when I was living on my own’Kunal shares that he learnt to ride a bike thanks to his friends, who allowed him to use their bikes. “I wasn’t allowed to ride bikes while growing up. I only got to buy a bike once I was living on my own. The first bike I owned was a Harley Davidson Iron 883. Bikes always made me feel exhilarated and the joy I got from riding a bike was just different from everything else,” he shares.
‘We choose bikes according to the trip’Ask Kunal to pick his favourite biker friend from Bollywood, and he quickly replies, “I’m not choosing between friends. We choose bikes according to the trip and not friends (laughs). There are a few friends in the industry and outside of it who share the same passion, and we try to plan rides when everyone is free. We did that more often a few years ago and not so much in the recent past. Although we do try to plan at least one riding trip a year, we haven’t planned one for this year yet.”
Kunal, who wishes to go back to Ladakh and even wants to ride in Arunachal Pradesh, signs off saying, “Biking is a mix of therapy and meditation in many ways along with a sense of freedom.”
