'Love Sonia', the
Tabrez Noorani's directorial, that showcases the horrific side of sex trade and prostitution and Mumbai's dark underbelly hit theatres this Friday. Though met with good reviews and critical acclaim, it did not manage to draw in the masses. The film was off to a poor start at the box office with a collection of Rs 25 lakh, states a report on BoxofficeIndia.com.
Produced by the Oscar-nominated David Womark of 'Life Of Pi' fame, 'Love Sonia' boasts of an ensemble cast featuring Demi Moore, Freida Pinto, Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao and Mrunal Thakkur.
The film tells a story of a farmer played by Adil Hussain who grapples with poverty and desperation. In a quest to pay off his debts, he sells one of his daughters to a local landlord for money. The lead character Sonia heads off to search her sister Preeti in the city of Mumbai, thus forming the crux of the story.
