Just another date or a lucky alignment? DT explores the mystique of 7/7/07. A trip to Monte Carlo and its famed casinos or a walk down the aisle? As 7/7/07 dawns bright and clear, people across the world are trying to make the most of this 'lucky' day. The biggest do of them all will obviously be the grand ceremony at Lisbon where the new Seven Wonders of the World will be announced. With the Taj Mahal and Bipasha Basu representing India there, the country will be watching intently.
Meanwhile, famous artists will be performing live from all the seven continents for Live Earth concert that aims to fight against global warming.
With the emphasis on the magic figure of seven, people are lining up to say 'I do' all over the world, including India, and women are getting caesarean operations done. As Kathleen Murray, a wedding planner from the US, says, "This has been the biggest wedding day I've seen in recent years. My company is taking care of 31,000 weddings on 7 July." The capital also is not far behind either. Subhash Kakkar, president - Banquet Halls Association of Delhi, says, "Though it is not the peak time for marriages, yet on July 7, all the banquets across the capital are booked." What's so special about July7? Historically, the number 7 has held a special significance from the time of the ancient Babylonians, and it is also a crucial numeral in the Bible, as in the seven days of the creation.On 7/7/1777, American troops defeated the British in the American War of Independence. However, on 7/7/2005, all the sevens proved inauspicious, for this was the day London faced a terror attack. Numerologists are not very impressed with the day either. As numerologist Anupam Kapil says, "July 7, 2007 is not as auspicious as claimed by many. It has just been hyped up. On numerological note, it will only affect those born on this day." However, the party scene in Delhi is dull today. "There are no theme parties on 7/7/7, the 007 party theme has been done to death this year because the year is 2007," says DJ Gaurav.
