hyderabad: 'melody queen' kavita krishnamurthy, who has so far sung about 2,000 film songs in several indian languages, will present a fusion music concert as part of the festival of andhra pradesh on january 11. in an interview with the times of india, kavita said the science of music would be similar though the composition varies. for instance, the spanish cello with its high frequency could be piercing.
kavita said the profound intricacies of music from across the world and their similarity to the hindustani and carnatic music would be understood only when one gets an opportunity to hear global music. it was the efforts of her husband, violin virtuoso dr l subramaniam in organising the global music festival since 1992, in memory of his father professor v lakshmi narayana, that she could understand the different global trends in music. born in delhi, kavita began her vocal training under a reputed hindustani music teacher sr balram puri and her singing talent was evident when she was just eight. an honours graduate in economics from st xavier's college, mumbai, her professional career in singing began with music directors and singer hemant kumar and manna dey. later, she started dubbing for her icon, lata mangeshkar, in hindi films. kavita said beginning with the recording of jingles for commercials, advertisements in 14 languages, the first recording for a bengali song was done with lata mangeshkar under laxmikant pyarelal for maang bharo sajna. it was followed by playback singing for films like pyar jhukta nahin, mr india, khuda gawah, khamoshi, bombay, pardesh and recent ones include zubeida and yadein. the latest one, she said, would be for sanjay bansali's film devdas. the most memorable event in my life-time was the millennium show 2000 at necklace road here where more than two lakh visitors had arrived, she said, adding that she was thrilled by the way the audience reacted and she would like to hold similar concerts the city in future.
