I am an absolute water-person, so summer for me is just another excuse to head to Goa and chill out on the beaches there. Nothing beats the heat better than a dip in the pool. Being a part of the city’s hectic lifestyle, we just cannot avoid stepping out in the sun. However, what we can do is to take care of moving out well-equipped to handle the rising city heat.
Caps, hats, glares, scarves, sun block lotions for skin are an absolute musts. But the cooling should also come from within. So be very careful of what you eat during the summer. I always prefer carrying my home-made food including juices and fresh cut fruits and salads with me. So, I am well-replenished, even if out in the heat.
Avoid eating hot and spicy food. In fact it’s a good time and excuse to go easy on eating the meats. Try going healthy with veggies instead. I drink lots of water, but never cold water.
Drinking water at room temperature ensures that you do not get sore throats and is also good for your system. Fresh fruits, fruit juices and veggies make up for my diet. I love drinking chaas. Avoid canned foods. I love drinking coffee, but I prefer iced cold coffees. Water-melons are my favourite fruits and they are the best hydrants too.
For the skin, sunscreens of course are a must. That apart, cleansing and hydrating the skin should be an everyday routine. Wash it often.
Minissha’s tips: You can’t control the elements, but you can tackle them by eating and drinking right. Go for light cool lunches and small meals through the day. Avoid hot food.
It’s important to take good care of your hair. Wash regularly and if possible everyday. Applying leave-in conditioners. They act well as wrap around masks and protect hair from external damaging factors including pollution.
A very important mantra is to go keep cool by going short — whether it’s hair or clothes — and send the temperatures of those around soaring.
