He is not your typical director. But, director Mohit Suri is happy making films that are a class apart from the rest. Although Woh Lamhe, his last project, failed to do well at the box office, it received critical acclaim from certain significant quarters. Now, Mohit is excited about his new film Raaz The Mystery Continues that stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangna Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman.
We ask him to tell us about the film. If I tell you, Im going to have to kill you, he replies jokingly. It is the story of a modern-day couple and instances of the supernatural in their lives. There are three characters that have different views regarding the supernatural. Emraan plays a painter named Prithvi who paints Kangna in distress, and watches it unfold later in real life.
With yet another film starring Emraan and now Kangna, isnt Mohit afraid of being told that he doesnt move away from his core group of actors? He replies, If you are in a cricket match, you will want your best players on board. I could never do a horror film without Emraan. We have been huge horror buffs since we were six. He used to even watch the crappy ones like Jeepers Creepers. After Woh Lamhe, I wanted to work with Kangna again. Luckily, she heard the script and said yes.
We have seen many horror films made in the past. So, what makes his film different from the rest? Ive noticed that most of our horror films have been inspired by Hollywood. I wanted to make a film that is connected with our Indian culture. The main theme that I am looking at is the evil that lies within you. It is not an external factor that you have to fight. I have also tried to integrate the Gita in the film, he tells us.
When one is doing a horror film, there are bound to be spooky incidents. The director shares, There were many incidents. My lights crashed one day. My editing machines disk crashed on another. The team that is doing the visual effects for my film is also doing work on Aamir Khans upcoming film. Only my films work crashed, he laughs.
After this spooky adventure, what will we see next from him? Im working on a couple of ideas. But, Im a director who likes to stay in the present. I never think about my future films while Im working on one. No problems Mohit. As you live in the present, we wait to see what the future holds for us!
