A few weeks after Aruna Raje''s <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Tum</span> hit the theatres, Anurag Basu''s <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Murder</span> is gearing up for release.

The promos of the film starring Mallika Sherawat, Asmit Patel and Farhan Hashmi are steaming up the air-waves, making Sherawat''s earlier film <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Khwahish </span>look like a family entertainer! <br /></div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -2"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="27.0%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" f3f3f3=""> <div class="Normal"><img src="/photo/561303.cms" alt="/photo/561303.cms" border="0" /></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Murder</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> revolves around the staid boring life of Simran and Sudhir Sehgal, who are trapped in a passionless marriage, both bound to the past, which boasts of unhappy love affairs for both of them. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">Things however take a turn, for both good and bad, for Simran and Sudhir respectively, with a chance meeting between Simran and her old boyfriend. She is an unhappy married woman and when she gets the chance to change her life, she takes it up," gushes Sherawat. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">The film according to her is a celebration of an extra-marital affair but director Anurag Basu chooses to describe it as a "look on human emotions and passions. All the characters are very strong and have shades of grey. There is no all black and all white." </span></div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -6"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="34.7%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:=""> <div class="Normal"><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">RELATED STORIES</span></div> </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" fbfbfb=""> <div class="Normal"><a href="/articleshow/516747.cms">Hell''s angels make sure sin''s in</a><span style="" font-size:=""></span><br /><span style="" font-size:=""> </span><a href="/articleshow/513368.cms">Manisha ko gussa kyon aata hai?</a><span style="" font-size:=""></span><br /><span style="" font-size:=""> </span><a href="/articleshow/508695.cms">''My role in Jism was powerful''</a></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">The film''s story-line bears an uncanny resemblance to the Richard Gere starrer </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Unfaithful</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> but the director and the actors involved deny this. "The only similarity is the extra-marital affair," says Asmit Patel while Basu adds, "I had admitted that my previous film </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Saaya</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> was similar to </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Dragonfly</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> but </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Murder</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> is an original story." </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""><formid=367815></formid=367815></span><br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal"><br />The promos show Sherawat and Hashmi in throes of passion in different places ranging from the swimming pool to a balcony ledge but Basu defends against the charge of a skin flick. <br /><br />"In isolation it might seem that way but the larger picture is quite different. In fact this is a charge that I never even thought of since the film does not dwell on it extensively." <br /><br />Sherawat says, "How else will a couple express their love? Making love is the most natural expression of affection, and it happens all around us. Why should we fight shy of showing it?" <br /><br />Infact, the actress lets it be known that there was a far more risqué scene she was supposed to do, but she backed out. "I was to be in a pool and the angle of the shot would have made it seem as if I was swimming nude. Though I agreed initially, I later developed cold feet." While Sherawat has repeatedly made it clear that she is not interested in playing the typical Bollywood heroine, the presence of new comers Patel and Hashmi seems unusual. <br /><br />"But I was very keen to do the negative role," laughs Patel. He was advised against it by Bhatt since his debut also featured him in the role of modern day Bluebeard. "Sudhir is a father and a husband but there are several other facets to his role. He accepts that he drove his wife into the arms of another man but will not take it lying down also. He will accept her back and atone for his mistakes." <br /><br />Playing the character to the actor came easily since, "I had gone through a similar experience in my personal life at that time. Shooting for <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Murder</span> was very cathartic." <br /><br />Different is the mantra for all Bhatt films, but somewhere along the line they tend to lose steam. Will <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Murder</span> fall into the same trap? Only time will tell. <br /><br /><formid=367815></formid=367815></div> </div>
