The last time that director-producer Mahesh Bhatt was in the capital, he spent some time meeting the commissioner of police here. When Bhatt was in Delhi this week, he told us that it was all in context of his next flick, which is based on Delhi’s illegal gun industry.
Says Bhatt, “My next film is called “Informer” and it will be shot completely in Delhi. It’ll be about the gun trade that blooms around Delhi.
It’s almost a cottage industry. It is also the story of a cop and his snitch. Emraan plays the mole and the cop is played by his good friend (
Randeep Hooda).”
While Bhatt denies that the story is inspired by any real person or incident, he says he got the idea while talking to an IB officer. He explains, “We were interviewing an IB friend before we started “Murder 2”. When we asked him about the relationship that an intelligence officer shares with his source. He took a heartbreaking pause and said it’s the most painful relationship there is, it’s that intense. That is what inspired us – the pause.”
So, says Bhatt, “We developed this relationship further. The story shows the flip side of the law... the guys who are involved and their journey through this world of guns, this illegal arms trade with hide and seek happening at every step.” The movie goes on floors this August, and the director of the flick, Kunal Deshmukh, will come and spend some time in Delhi before he begins shooting, says Bhatt. He adds, “We’ve cast Prachi (Desai), and we are looking for someone for the second role. We’ll also be casting a lot of people from Delhi’s theatre circuit, instead of flying people down from Mumbai.”
