Om Puri's funny coincidence

It seems Om Puri landed a film that is, to quote an Americanism, right up his alley. Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra is set to start the film, Mad Madder Maddest, which will be directed by debutant Mrighdeep Lambha and co-produced by PVR.
Incidentally, the circumstances that the character that Om Puri plays in it has a striking resemblance to the actual circumstances he’s been going through in his personal life.
“Mad, Madder, Maddest - as the name suggests - is a comedy. It revolves around three brothers, played by Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade and Deepak Dobriyal. Om plays the character of a man who is very irritated with life. In fact, he wants to leave his wife and go away, but is only waiting till his kids get married. However, unlike the situation in Om’s real life, the film is treated in a comical manner,” says a source.
Apparently the production house was in two minds about getting in touch with Om after they learnt about the problems in his personal life. They were also not sure if he would be in the right frame of mind to shoot for the film even if he did agree to do it. But to their relief, Om was more than willing and said that he was looking forward to working in the film. “He felt that the character would be a welcome escape from his current state of mind,” says our source.
An official spokesperson of the production house says, “Om Puri’s character Chikki Singh is a middle-aged, married guy who is very angry with his life and wife. Omji enjoying the script reading session and is very excited about the film. We start shooting next week.”
