Jiah Khan's last tweet of May 23 seemed extremely normal: "So sorry I have been off twitter! Took a bit of a break from twitter verse…sometimes u need a sabbatical to recollect ur thoughts…" Well, nobody thought the sabbatical would be permanent and so heart-wrenching. In fact, in the recent past, June and December 2012 to be exact, Jiah had visited Nagpur for two fashion events and had wished that "she'd stay in the city long enough to explore more." Maybe next time, she'd said then…well, that time never really came.
On her June 2012 visit, everything Jiah said to
TOI was brimming with confidence, hope and optimism. On films, she had said, "I love working in cinema - it can be in any language! I have a few exciting highly stylised projects that I am signing. Cinema is changing at a rapid pace and so are our audiences. It's an exciting time right now in the Indian film industry. Challenges are engaging and I love it! The genres that are accepted today are a far cry to what the industry was five years ago. As an actor, it makes it much more exciting.”
On her dream role, Jiah had wanted to “attempt a classical love story or a period drama.” She had her reasons too: “I have been training in Kathak and I'd love to portray a character, which could exhibit not just my dancing skills, but also the
ada that existed in the classical era… I would enjoy venturing into music, as I do write songs and compose music! Eventually I see myself doing something in that area, surely!”
When Jiah told
TOI that in these days where visibility matters, a certain air of exclusivity is always good, it was reassuring to know that the glamour world's brutality hadn't affected her sanity. She had said: “There is a time and place for being in the limelight.”
We agree Jiah, and surely this is not the way you or anybody else wanted it! RIP!
