Parents proud of my Filmfare Award: Imtiaz Ali

Imtiaz Ali talks about his nomination in the Best Director category for his movie Love Aaj Kal in the 55th Idea Filmfare Awards 2009
This is your second nomination after Jab We Met, are you anxious?
Not at all! It’s like a family get-together. I like the fact that it’s an intimate event and you get to meet all your friends from the fraternity. I really look forward to it.
Along with you, the lead pair of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone have also been nominated for the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.What you have to say about them?
There are certain categories which I am more eager to win the awards than the others. I will be most happy if Rahat gets the award in Best Male Playback category for Aji Din Chadiya song. I will also be happy if people will win awards in technical categories as well. Technical awards are equally important. If the movie is not edited right, then even the acting or direction doesn’t work. It’s a collaborative effort and each piece of the puzzle is equally important and should be equally respected in award functions.
Among nominees, whom would you give the ‘Best Director’ award and why?
It’s a tough choice but I will give it to Rajkumar Hirani. I admire films that have an intellectual factor but connect to the maximum people. He has proved that you don’t have to be stupid to give a hit. That’s what I like about him.
What are your memories of the Filmfare Awards?
When I received my first Filmfare Award, my parents were more excited than me, holding the trophy and posing for a picture with it. In their eyes, they valued this award because Dilip Saab and all their favourite matinee idols have received it. That’s something I will never forget.
Have you wished Deepika and Saif for their nominations?
I haven’t had the chance yet, but when we meet that night, I will definitely give them my best wishes.
