Actress Payal Rohatgi has learnt to abuse, albeit in a polite way (read: the Shakespearean way)! The damsel undertook a workshop conducted by theatre personality Quasar Thakore Padamsee. It was a sampling of Shakespeare and the work attempted was Othello! The experience Payal describes as enriching. “The ‘thous’ and ‘thees’ that once upon a time seemed too complicated have now suddenly become charming!” she laughs, “We even learnt to abuse in Shakespearean style — you know the typical, ‘Damn her, lewd minx’ kind of statements.’
About why Payal attended the workshop, she says, “I’m looking to do substantial work.
So instead of just signing any film, I thought it best to hone my skills at my craft till a good movie comes my way... Theatre is a different experience, a challenge and gives one a brilliant base. One understands the little nuances much better — the importance of characterisation and mood, dialogue delivery and backdrop, action and reaction, spontaneity and dependency on one’s own talent and intellect.”
Now, Shakespeare would be proud of this girl for sure, after all it is he who has said, “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”
