We had reported how Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who was last seen in Bollywood film 'Shanghai', was in talks with the Bangladeshi government to lift the 48-year-old ban on Indian films in the country. In fact, the actor had a meeting with the Information and Broadcasting minister of Bangladesh, Hasanul Haq Inu, on December 21 last year so as to release Indian films in Bangladesh on and after April 14 this year.
However, due to the current tense situation in Bangladesh, the plan has been kept on hold for some time. And in order to facilitate an exchange of culture between the two countries, Prosenjit has taken the initiative to release Bangladeshi films in India. The actor, who we learnt has been quite upset with the turn of events in Bangladesh, has invited Hasanul Haq Inu to India and the latter has agreed to be present at an entertainment conference in Mumbai to be held this week. He will initiate discussions about Bangladeshi films which will be released here and will also speak to members of the Indian film fraternity.
“I have always been supported in my initiative to introduce a strong Indo-Bangladesh relationship through cultural exchange. The entire Indian film fraternity will be present at this conference where we will discuss the kind of platform to be given to Bangladeshi films. We are striving towards opening up the market and have already taken small steps towards it,” said Prosenjit. As a first step, the actor is mainly targeting various film festivals in India where these films can be showcased. Additionally, Indian film technicians will be given the opportunity to work in Bangladeshi films. “We are encouraging the exchange of our technicians. Also, we will provide locations for the Bangladeshi films to be shot here. All of this put together will result in a true cultural collaboration,” the actor added.
