Arjun Rampals career is rocking literally. The actor is donning the role of a guitarist in his latest film Rock On!! also starring director-turned-actor Farhan Akhtar and the the gorgeous girl of the small screen, Prachi Desai.
And, he is excited that he has finally learnt how to play the guitar like a pro. I play the lead guitarist of a rock band.
We did not want to look fake, so we trained a lot with the instruments that our characters were playing. All of us used to jam together and had a lot of practice sessions. Now, I can say that I play the guitar very well, he says.
Considering his role, is he sporting a new look? He restrains himself from disclosing much about his character or his look, but finally gives in. Well, there is a time lapse of about ten years shown in the film, so naturally the characters look different between the two time zones. And, yes, I have a slightly different look in the film.
With his sharp features, deep voice and the conspicuous Greek God looks Rampal will soon be seen in his first English film The Last Lear, which is already getting rave reviews in film festivals around the world. Narrating his experiences during the making of the film, Rampal says, It is a beautiful film, and it was great working with Mr Bachchan and Preity again. There are very few times when commercial actors get a chance to do a realistic film. But then, a new breed of films and directors are coming up now. Rituparno Ghosh has carved out the characters really well, so it was easy playing the role of a director that I will be seen in.
And, this is not all. He also has three more films in various stages of production EMI, where he plays a DJ; Rajneeti, a political film he is doing with Prakash Jha; and Fox, a thriller.
Like many actors, Rampal too has set up his own production house, and is keen on contributing to the cause of good cinema. We are in the process of finalising some wonderful scripts, and we hope to get going by the end of this year. But, nothing can be revealed right now, says this model-turned-actor. Incidentally, the name of his company is Chasing Ganesha. Quite an unusual name, isnt it? Yeah, during difficult times, one often tends to think of God, especially Lord Ganesh. Plus, we were looking for some different name that doesnt sound like the entity is connected to movies, smiles Rampal.
Rampal believes that getting into production is a natural progression for an actor. Also, this enables the actors to understand the business of filmmaking, he adds. So, does that mean an actor-producer can do more justice to a film vis-a-vis a non-actor producer? There is no such thing. There can be a non-actor producer who is as professional and passionate about films as anyone can get, he says. Thats what we call professionalism, Rampal!
