In the era of reel life Singhams and Chulbul Pandeys, here is a story of a real life IPS officer who virtually rescued the famed steel city of India - Jamshedpur - from the hands of mafia goons. Ajoy Kumar, now a politician, was a hot blood SP of Patna back in 1990’s when we was handpicked by then CM Lalu Prasad Yadav to rein in the mafia gangs ruling the roost in Jamshedpur.

Prawal Raman, a Ram Gopal Varma protege and having titles like 'Darna Mana Hai', 'Gayab' and 'Darna Zaruri Hai', has roped in Randeep Hooda and Chitrangada Singh to play the role of the supercop and his IAS wife on screen.

When contacted, Dr Ajoy Kumar said, “Prawal hails from Jugsalai which is close to Jamshedpur. He recently contacted me with a proposal to make a film on my life and I gave my approval. Since most of the cop movies are based on Mumbai underworld, people should get to know how we turned a crime ridden city of Jamshedpur into a what is now called Mini Mumbai.”
Struck by the heroics of Dr. Ajoy Kumar, Prawal was keen to make a movie on the ex IPS. “I too, belong to Jamshedpur but what stuck me was his inspirational character - since Dr Kumar himself admires Che Guevara a lot - both personally and professionally. No one is born a hero but one’s actions make him one. Coming from a town in Karnataka to being admired for his role in cleansing Jamshedpur of anti- social elements is a story that must be told to the people,” says Prawal.

Incidentally, this would be Prawal’s second movie with Randeep, the first being Main Aur Charles, based on the life of famous conman Charles Shobraj, which is all set to release in December.
“It kind of funny to have casted Randeep as a conman in Main Aur Charles and a supercop in the next but that’s the beauty of Randeep. The talented actor that he is, Randeep can fit in any role with ease,” raves the director.
Randeep will be paired with Chitrangada Singh in the movie, who herself is all set to make a comeback after a long sabbatical. “while writing the script, I felt the need to cast an actress who can look strong in her own skin and emulate the role of a working IAS officer with ease and Chitrangada’s name was the first to come to my mind,” reveals Prawal.
Excited to play the role of a no nonsense cop again after Kick, Randeep is looking forward to the film.
“When I heard Dr Ajoy's story from Prawaal I realised how it needs to be told immediately. It's extremely relevant… be the change that you wish to see in the world. The movie will depict the heroic journey of a man who has donned many caps and has always served people against all odds. As an actor, it's a rare opportunity to get a chance to play many roles while enacting a single character”, says Randeep Hooda.

With pre production on in full swing, the movie is all set to go on floors in February next year. “The script is ready cast locked on, we will start shooting the film in February next year. The shooting will take place in Jamshedpur, Patna and Mussoorie,” says Raman.
