Sushant Singh Rajput’s abrupt death sent shock waves throughout the world. The promising and fairly successful actor had years ahead of him but the turn of events were hauntingly tragic. His
Dhoni costar
Jitin Gulati shared his first impression of the actor and what was he like as a costar in a chat with Bombay Times.
He reminisced, “The first thing that struck me when I met him was his intelligence. There was so much more to him than being an actor. He was observant and sharp. His level of preparation corroborated my first impression of him. He was self aware and focused.”
Sushant’s ability to not forget his roots stood him apart. “His humility, rootedness and association with his hometown never stopped. He had lived away for so long and seen so much success but he was still very much at home in Ranchi and the other places we shot in. The big city life couldn’t rob him off his sense of belonging to his roots. I think that was a part of the reason why he was so successful.”
The actor adds conversations with Sushant were never about the film business. “We spoke on life, fame, cosmology, science, cricket, politics. Since, we were shooting in his home state, he was well versed with the local cuisines.. we would sometime go and try those out. It was special time for all of us.”
Remembering his dedication to get every scene right, Jitin shared, “Coming from a very academic background, he treated scripts and characters as his study. I feel that was the case with all his roles. He was always very prepared yet very instinctive in the scenes. No doubt he was very good at his craft.”
